  • PERSONAL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

What have you done to prepare for a local disaster?

  • WHAT emergency supplies have you stored?

  • DO you have a battery-operated, or better yet,  self charging flashlights and radio?

  • DO you have a family rendezvous point, for house evacuation?

  • DO you have a specific plan for various possible disasters that might occur in our area?

  • DO you know what to save out of your home in an emergency and can you  quickly retrieve and carry it out?

  • DO you know where your designated “High Ground” shelter is?

  • DO you know to which radio station to dial into for disaster  recovery instructions?

The Critical Steps For Your Disaster plan:

1.      Prepare:  Put a plan together.  Make a list and gather your  critical supplies and first aid kit.   Set aside your lighting and radio,  and remember items for warmth during a possible winter incident.  Establish a family and pet evacuation plan, and a route to a high ground shelter.  Order two certified copies of  your critical documents and  keep one set  at the bank and  the other in a water-tight and lightweight container to carry out in a moment’s notice. Have at least one car full of gas at all times.  Leave some emergency cash in your preparedness kit.

2.      Practice:  Practice your plans to see if they really do work.  Practice at least twice a year, in different climates, to see if there is something else you might need.

3.      Stay Informd:  Visit at least once per year.  http://www.sacpd.org/homeland.asp http://www.ready.gov    Also, http://www.redcross.org/services is a great source of information Click on “Get Prepared” in the left hand legend.   During an emergency,  tune to AM 1530 KFBK.

4.      What to do in the event of an emergency:

1.-Remain calm. Think before you act.
2.-Be aware of your surroundings.
3.-Shelter-in-place under most circumstances (stay indoors) is recommended.
4.-Tune into local radio (KFBK 1530AM) or TV stations for instructions and information.
5.-If an evacuation is ordered, follow the instructions of local officials regarding   evacuation routes and the location of shelters.
6.-Do not leave your sheltered location or return to the evacuated area until it is deemed safe to do so by local officials

7.-Bring your prepared Carry-Out Items
