The Community Responds
Your comments on the ARCO AM/PM at Orchard and West El Camino
would be greatly appreciated!

There will be only two ways to contact the City at this point.  Either copy and paste the addresses below into your browser composer address window or write them by direct mail.

We have included the address to City hall below.  Make sure that you insert the statement, "Please distribute this letter to Mayor Fargo and all the City Council Members" onto the front left bottom of your envelope.

If you agree with the ROCA Board on the limitations of this project, please include the following in your statement, in your own words:

  • (Keep it short and succinct.  No more than 200 words.  State your issues and concerns and let us make the case at the hearing.  They just won't read all the details in a lengthy letter. Put your issues in the beginning paragraph.)
  • That a 24-hour gas station would cause the surrounding residents to suffer from all the late-night noise pollution that would be generated by the close location of this station to the residents, and that it should be closed before midnight.
  • That a 16 pump handle station is too big of a station for this area.  The City has still to fix the traffic problems and signalize the I-80 and West El Camino off ramps  This station will add to the unsafe traffic issues that already exist here.
  • Say something like , "Do the right thing, we need our sleep!"  or  "We need safe traffic flow on West El Camino first!"

You may want to include other issues as well, or you may agree with the 24-hour concept, either way we want to hear from you.  If you want to state your concerns about 24-hour stations increasing the risk of bringing in more of the criminal element into our neighborhood , state that as well.  Just make sure that you keep it to around 200 words.

MAIN CONCESSIONS MADE THUS FAR:

  • Temporary exclusion of Alcohol Sales
  • No junk food sold during School hours
  • Only two adolescents in store at one time during school hours.
  • Staples and a complement of fresh foods to be offered to Community

NOTE: If you would like to independently write the Mayor and City Council, You may  "Copy and Paste" the addresses below into your browser's "To" window on your composition page.  Please copy the entire address string:

"Bonnie Pannel" <bpannell@cityofsacramento.org>, "Heather Fargo" <hfargo@cityofsacramento.org>, "Kevin McCarty" <KMcCarty@cityofsacramento.org>, "Lauren Hammond" <lhammond@cityofsacramento.org>, "Ray Tretheway" <rtretheway@cityofsacramento.org>,jshiels@winfirst.com, "Robbie Waters" <rwaters@cityofsacramento.org>, "Robert Fong" <rkfong@cityofsacramento.org>, admin@globalcom-edu.com, "Sandy Sheedy" <ssheedy@cityofsacramento.org>, "Steve Cohn" <scohn@cityofsacramento.org>

If you would like to write the City by snail mail (USPS), here is the address to City Hall and the salutation to use:

Mayor Heather Fargo and City Council Members
915 I Street ,  5th Floor
Sacramento, Ca, 95814

Dear Mayor Fargo and City Council Members

Here is a "canned comment" that you may also use, but it would be more effective in your own words:

****************************************************************************

Dear Mayor Fargo and City Council Members,

I am concerned about the pending approval of a 24-hour, large capacity, ARCO Convenience Station at the intersection of West El Camino and Orchard Drive.  This station is located in a predominately Residential intersection and noise from a 24 operation would dramatically affect the serenity and peace of the surrounding residents.  Also a 16-handle station is too large for this intersection and would further impact and worsen the traffic issues that already exist here.

I am also concerned that a 24-hour Station increases the possibility of attracting the criminal element into our Community. We already have enough crime in our neighborhood and the Police already cannot respond in a timely fashion to our requests.

Please do the right thing for our Community and restrict this station's operating hours from 7am to 11pm, and reduce its size to 12 pump handles only.  Give us a safer West El Camino and fix our unsafe traffic problems first before you move ahead with this project.  Please do not allow this project to destroy the safety and the livability of our Community or deny me a good night's sleep!

******************************************************************************

Here is a LINK to the Letter to ROCA Residents concerning ARCO  for you to print out and share with your neighbors.

THANK YOU!

Your support in bringing smart, friendly and healthy developments to our communities is greatly appreciated.
